I’m going to do something unusual here and actually blog about sports — more specifically American football. It has never been a secret that I’m a Green Bay Packers-fan (or Pack-man if you will) and tonight was their first regular season game since Sep. 20, 1992 without legendary quarterback Brett Favre in the starting line-up. (Favre is now starting QB for the New York Jets, more about the trade at Wikipedia) There has been a lot of talk about Aaron Rodgers, who has taken over after Favre, and whether or not he can handle the pressure and the high expectations.

Now, the pressure and expectations are hard enough to cope with and Rodgers handles it extremely well, but constantly being compared to what may well be the best QB ever in the history of NFL is downright unfair and totally illogical.

Watching Favre play football was like watching an artist creating a master-piece; art in real-time. Extending that analogy further, who would you prefer to see painting a Picasso — Picasso or Kvium? Rodgers is taking over after Favre and he is not supposed to be Favre or even play like Favre. Even though it is tempting to think, “Favre would have converted that 1st and 33″, I don’t think that is the way to look at it. Sure, Favre would probably have been more likely to convert it; more likely than any other QB in the entire league!

From what I saw Rodgers deliver tonight against Minnesota Vikings, it seems that he has definitely learned a lot from Favre, but also sets himself aside from Favre in that he is willing to actually run the ball if there are no open receivers or simply if the opportunity presents itself and seems viable. Favre’s influence was definitely visible at his first touchdown pass, which was great to see — there is nothing wrong with learning from the best — but I was relieved to find that he was not trying to be Favre or play like him.

The Packers have a great QB in Rodgers and it was nice to see that they had enough confidence in him to line up with 4 receivers, leaving Rodgers somewhat more vulnerable to a sack (of which they gave up exactly zero mostly thanks to the defensive line-men). Leading the Pack to a 24–19 victory over division rivals Vikings (in spite of 118 penalty yards against them) is a pretty impressive beginning and I am confident that Rodgers and the rest of the team can take on the rest of NFC North and make the playoffs. One thing though… If I was Rodgers, I would practice that Lambeau Leap some more, I am sure it will not be in vain.

During my recent contact with an English company, I’ve had to use the pound sign (£) a lot, which has uncovered a bug in Firefox 3 — at least I think it is… Using the danish keyboard layout the pound sign has to be made by pressing alt-4, but doing so in Firefox 3 will just result in switching to tab no. 4 if a such exists. If not, the shortcut will merely do nothing. Either way, no pound sign for me.

Effectively this means that all combinations from alt-1 – alt-9 are useless, which means that the following characters can’t be written in Firefox 3 on OS X with a danish keyboard layout: ¡, “, §, £, ∞, ™, ¶, [ and ]. I find it especially troublesome that the hard brackets doesn’t work, since they’re extensibly used in BBTags, as replacements for < and > when writing HTML examples in a place that doesn’t handle < and > well, it’s used as scope delimiter in Functional Grammar notation and in a ton of other places.

I’ve scoured the web for a solution (as well as about:config) but to no avail.

A while ago I ordered a Stanton T.120 turntable from DJSuperstore, and a Stanton SA.3 mixer and Ortofon Concorde Scratch needle + cartridge from Musicstore.de. Now, the mixer, cartridge and needle were all delivered over a week ago, but apparently DJSuperstore has some problems coming up with my T.120 and apparently they tell me nothing unless I email them 3 times on different addresses and ask over and over again. Last I heard from them they said that the turntable they’d reserved for me was damaged when it went to dispatch and they’re now awaiting a replacement from Stanton and that they’d mail a confirmed date the next day, which they didn’t. Of course, I had to drag that out of them with the spamming mentioned earlier — the last I heard from them without eliciting anything my order was waiting to be shipped and they’d let me know when it actually did.

Now, I’m pretty sure that they’re not trying to rip me off or anything like that, but it’s still a major pain in the ass that they’re so slow and so bad at communicating with their customers. If anyone knows some way of pressuring them into hurrying up, please let me know — I’m getting somewhat impatient here.

After 2 years (2 fscking years!) I’ve finally finished the track for the Composition Challenge: Kitchop (MP3, on Google Pages). As you may — or may not — recall, Jesper’s challenge to me was, “make a song containing at least three things from your kitchen and you rap … in danish.” My challenge to him was,“make a song with real hand-claps (that is, you clap) in it, no drums/drumsamples and at least one instrument must have audible reverb.“

Jesper finished his song (The Devil) in, like, 1 week(!), so I guess it’s about time I finished mine. Sorry for the delay, Jesper.

Update (June 19, 2008, 19:10): There were a couple of mixing and compression related problems with the track, so a new (and better) version has been uploaded. If you’ve downloaded the song before this update please re-download it and enjoy even more!

It’s around 9 months since it was discovered that MSN had implemented some pretty retarded keyword blocking rules on messages sent through MSN Messenger (aka. Live Messenger; not the client, the protocol). Now — according to Slashdot — they’ve added at least one more keyword to the list: “youtube.com”. I guess it’s only fair to speculate if this has something to do with the recent launch of Messenger TV in 20 countries.

allocinit has a more comprehensive list of blocked sub-strings and now you can add at least “youtube\.com” to it. Has anybody tested if links to Google Video gets through?

Now, this is just one reason that I don’t use MSN more than what is absolutely necessary…

UPDATE (May 12, 2008): I’ve tossed Adium into the trash can on my dock and am no longer using MSN. Try Google Talk instead, if you want to reach me via IM. It may not be open source or that far from MSN, but at least they don’t censor one’s messages and it’s based on Jabber (at least the protocol is open), so pretty much any Jabber client will work with it, hence everyone can join in without relying on a reverse engineered protocol. My Google Talk name is: lillesvin@gmail.com.
