Ok, so I went to a Scout Niblett concert here in Aarhus and God, did she ever rock the venue… I swear, I’ve never experienced such a little person emit so much energy and raw power. She was so great! (Thank you Scout, “You really rock my world!”) Unfortunately she was only supporting Giant Sand, so she didn’t play for more than 45 minutes or something like that. I hope she’ll come around again some time soon, e.g. when she releases her new album Kidnapped by Neptune in April/May.
And just in case you haven’t heard any of her music, give it a try. You’d have to have a heart of stone not to enjoy it. There’s a Real Audio stream of her latest single Uptown Top Ranking available at Too Pure (her UK label). (The sound quality isn’t really great, but it gives a clue about her style — apart from the fact that she has made some tracks where she plays the drums and sings, which is really some of her best tracks.)
Ok, I bought this insanely nice Siemens CX65 a couple of days ago and it really is Insanely Nice[tm]. It has a way better calendar than the MC60 (my previous phone), way better address book, way better display (a little more than double the size of the MC60 approx.), way better interface, it has IrDA (the MC60 had neither IrDA or BlueTooth), it’s way faster and it was only a 3rd of the price I gave for the MC60 (99 DKK / ~$17.6 USD vs. 299 DKK / ~$53.2 USD (at todays exchange rates))… Nice? Yeah, definitely!
The camera actually takes usable (for web) and decent pictures. (Make your own impression from the pic.) I’m actually a bit impressed, though I miss a flash, but then again, it’s a phone, not an actual camera. If I wanted a real digicam I would have bought a such. (Yeah, right! I’m a student ffs!) Another cool thing about it is the fact that it has great theming support, so for now I’ve installed a Mac OS X-wannabe theme on it and it looks nice and smooth. Mmm…
Perhaps the nicest thing about it is the fact that I can actually mount it in my filesystem on my Debian box. Thanks to IrDA, SieFS and FUSE it was only “somewhat of a hassle” instead of “impossible”. Thanks guys! So now I can browse through my phones filesystem just as if I was browsing through my homedir on my laptop. ;-).
Setting up IrDA was perhaps the hardest part, and then again, not that hard now that I know what I should have done. I wish I could give a complete breakdown of the details for others with Linux/Siemens CX65 and perhaps I’ll try, but not now. I’ll have to prepare for the Grammatic Anyalysis exam I flunked last year. ;-) So, over and out.
