Travelling != Living

Went to London, proved (once again) that man-kind isn’t the least bit trustworthy.
Even the ones closest to you are potential back-stabbers.
Don’t trust anyone, not even yourself.
It’s a fact of life — deal with it!

And yet life goes on.
Still there are dirt-bags waiting for you to turn your back on your luggage at the tube stations.
Still mum calls every now and then.
Still the planes are leaving from Stansted on a regular tuesday evening.
And still I just wish it hadn’t happened.
But it has — deal with it!

So I do…

Exam and the concept of Death Drinking

Posted in Friends, Life, Linguistics, Rant on January 16th, 2004 by Anders K. Madsen – 1 Comment

I had this Grammatical Analysis exam yesterday (Jan 14th) and I was seriously worried that I’d flunk it. I still am. I’ll get the results late January. If I don’t pass, it’s no big deal. I can take the course again on 3rd semester. Just sucks to have an extra course that semester, but ok. I reckon that Grammatical Analysis is quite essential for a linguist to understand…

Well, ’nuff said about the exam. After the exam I had a plan to drink myself so incredible pissed that I’d pass out and sleep whereever I fell… And I almost succeeded.

We (Solveig (one of my friends from the class) and I) started out drinking at 2:30pm. At around 12:00pm (after some wine, cherry-beer from Belgium and great deal of vodka) I passed out (fell asleep, not litterally “passed out”, unfortunately) on her bed after an affair with a cigarette, some fresh air and some stairs, which caused some throwing up to occur approximately 10 minutes before falling asleep on the before mentioned bed.

Anyways, I had a wonderful time playing Belle & Sebastian, Nirvana and Britney Spears on a ukulele with Solveig. (She played, I attempted to, but was way to wasted.)

NOTE: (Just for the sake of some strange country that needs warning labels on everything in order not to have half the population killed by trying to use a hair dryer for making bubbles in a spa… GO USA!)
Usually I don’t encourage heavy drinking (especially not of these dimensions), but I’ll say that this time was definitely worth it. (With the exam over and all…) Just to make it all even less moral I wasn’t really hung over today! (In your face, nature of alcohol!)

Other stuff:
This Monday (Jan 19th) I’ll be going to London to visit my girlfriend, (she works there, and comes home sometime around June) :(, so there probably won’t be many updates on the site and in the blog. But I’m sure you’ll keep yourself amused anyway.

Killer exam

Posted in Life, Linguistics, Top X on January 11th, 2004 by Anders K. Madsen – Be the first to comment

I guess it’s about time I wrote something here. But now is not a good time.

I’m reading up for an exam in grammatical analysis, which is quite a task. Unfortunately it seems like I overestimated myself while underestimating the material, which is definitely not a good thing. So instead of reading now, I’m just sitting here feeling bad about writing in my blog instead of reading.
That’s why I’ll stop writing now and start reading.

What hits?

  1. Damon Albarn – Democrazy
  2. Pavement – Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain
  3. Belle & Sebastian – Dear Catastrophe Waitress
