Indeed it has. I’ve been (and still am) busy studying, working and doing stuff, like social interaction with other members of the species homo sapiens – and studying for assignments. In the beginning of January I’ll have to hand in 3 assignments, Language and Culture (actually just anthropological linguistics), Methods of Linguistic Description and Theory of Science.

Language and Culture

I’ll try to reject the strongest version of Whorf‘s theory of linguistic determinism based on studies of color terms in various languages – studies done by e.g. Berlin, Kay, Heider and of course Whorf himself. Going to be pretty interesting – and it’s always fun to criticise Whorf.

Methods of Linguistic Description

Not entirely sure what I’ll be doing here, but probably something computer-related. We’re allowed to do some sort of alternative project, so of course I’ll try to find something that involves some programming, as that is what I’m hoping to combine my linguistics with at some point.

Theory of Science

Based on Morton Winston’s Did a (Kuhnian) Scientific Revolution Occur to Linguistics? and Kuhn‘s own works, I’m gonna write a discussion of the first-mentioned paper and my own view on the subject. Also something I’m actually looking forward to, as I really like Kuhn and (a lot of) his ideas.

So as you can understand, I’m busy, but in the good way – the really enjoyable way, actually. My blogging/coding/internet stand-still will probably last a while yet, but who cares, it’s not like anyone actually reads this crap anyway.
:-p

Oh, I nearly forgot – a top [something]!
Top 3: Great Stuff

Cowboy Bebop

DJ Format (especially the 3 Feet Deep video)

So I’m going to start with a top 3 this time.

Top 3 stickers

The Finnish flag on the back of my Thinkpad

The “This Machine Kills Fascists” on “that guys” keyboard

Anything with Psyduck (Pokémon) on it

Oprop!

Downloads siden medio Dec. 2003

Migato Estalo Co.: 278 (Oggs: 258 / Mp3′s: 20)

Laxness 101: 683 (Oggs: 624 / Mp3′s: 59)

Anders K. Madsen: 1281 (Oggs: 1093 / Mp3′s: 188)

Hvorfor?

Got the idea to use some of my 1GB at gmail account (which I only got to check it out anyway) to store backups of my mysql-db and most of the code on this server. Now I just need a way to automate this procedure, so I can make it backup via cron. It appears that gmail is becomming very popular – not only as a mail-service – but also as a backup/blog/you_name_it host. And indeed, the 1GB storage at gmail is certainly way more attractive than the 2MB of n^Hhotmail. Now we’ll just have to see how long gmail is going to put up with this alternative use of their webmail.

In other and totally irellavant news, my birthday is slowly sneaking up so I’ve put up a little wishlist (for my family to see, which is why it’s in Danish), but of course, I wouldn’t mind being surprised by a gift from an anonymous source (as long as it’s not ticking).

In even more unrelated (unrelated to what?) news, here’s a little top 5.

WebSVN was simply not efficient enough. It lacked a lot of features and such, so ViewCVS was the solution. The development version has native support for Subversion, so I spent a couple of minutes setting it up. Seems to work out fine.

You can access the repositories through URLs like: http://lillesvin.net/viewvc/dyndnsupdate, unfortunately I can’t seem to get the repository indexer to work at the moment, so the world will just have to know what it wants and put it after
/viewcvs/
in the URL.

I wrote a little HowTo on setting up ViewCVS with Subversion support, you can find it in the Brainstorm sektion (NOTE: link removed), which I’ve setup for things such as this. :) (Go directly to the HowTo: <strike>http://lillesvin.linux.dk:8080/brainstorm/SetupViewcvsAndSubversion.html</strike> (NOTE: Wiki taken down.).)

Furthermore, all subversion repositories are now running through Apache2/WebDAV, so to make a checkout of e.g.
dyndnsupdate
you’ll should use:

svn co http://lillesvin.linux.dk:8080/svn/dyndnsupdate dyndnsupdate

Top 3 things to do at the moment:

Code Ruby

Play with Apache 2

Brainstorm

Btw, I’ve gotten a Skype account! So, mail me, if you want to contact me through Skype.

“Which R are you filled with the most right now?”
Right now, I don’t know what to say? (Can you guess which movie the quote is from?)

I just ordered an LP that I’ve been looking for for more than 3 years (Beck – A Western Harvest Field by Moonlight – only 7000 copies released). Found a record store called Holy Cow (via GEMM.com) in Brooklyn that had one in stock in near mint condition for $55. I mailed the store, talked it down to $40 and placed the order, so now I’m just waiting for it to ship.
My biggest concern is what to do with my life now? What’s my purpose now? Once the record arrives, 3+ years of searching has ended…
Don’t get me wrong, I’m very happy that I finally found it. But still…

To get back to the R’s. I don’t know which I’m most filled with right now, relief or regret. A bit of both I guess, one more than the other depending on how I think about it.

Well, never mind… I’m really looking forward to finally hearing it.

In other news, I just stumbled upon this quote (#331940) from bash.org.

And my Top 3 Songs looks like this:

Finally it happened… I’ve split up… And no, it’s not an incidental singular form… I do mean “I’ve split up.”. (And FYI, it has nothing to do with schizophrenia.)

And what I mean by that is, that so far I’ve been publishing all my music under the same name, but I’ve decided to keep the elektronic stuff separated from the acoustic stuff. (At least the pure electronic stuff.)

So now you’ll be able to find my electronic tracks under the name Laxness 101 and the other stuff under Anders K. Madsen as usual.

In other news:
I just returned from a study trip to Helsinki/Finland and boy was that nice… I could’ve just moved there… Chilled like a cat in the sun by a small stream on Suomenlinna, saw 22 Pistepirkko live, experienced Kiasma (a museum for modern art) and was just very comfortable in general.
I can only recommend going there…

In lighter news, I’m not spending very much time at my computer at this point. Don’t worry, nothing is wrong, I’m just getting what they call “some kind of a social life”, where I actually meet people for real, talk to them by exchanging live sound waves, actually being in the same room as them – and at the same time as them… It’s actually not as bad as they said it would be.

This leads me to the final topic of this nights blog-entry. (“No, it doesn’t!”)
