New Migato Estalo Co. Track: Køledisk

It spent a long time in its raw form on my external hard drive missing only the last few details and mixing, which we never really got around to. Well, we finally got around to it! So without further ado, I give you: Migato Estalo Co. - Køledisk (MP3, hosted on GooglePages).

An Unholy Hip Hop Alliance and New Tracks Galore

DJ Smart Fætter Mikkel got the idea that we should make some beats, exchange them and rap away. Sounded like a fun idea, so why not?

Ladies and gentlemen, allow me to introduce to you, the fruit of our labor!

Both tracks are 192 kbit/s MP3s and hosted at GooglePages for your downstream pleasure.

Personally, I had a lot of fun doing it, so we might be cooking up some more at some point if Fætter Mikkel is up for it. ;)

In other news: I did a little updating on http://lillesvin.googlepages.com /andersk.madsen (where I used to keep some Oggs for download). Among other things I replaced the Oggs with 192 kbit/s MP3s (sorry folks, it’s not that I don’t think Ogg is great, it’s that everyone who makes iPods and other MP3-players thinks it’s not worth supporting) and actually uploaded a track I’d completely forgotten to release — Sommerblues — my first solo-track in Danish! It’s been available in terrible quality at my last.fm profile for a while, but now it’s here in reasonable quality. And finally I left a little teaser on the page (http://lillesvin.googlepages.com /andersk.madsen)…

Doing MIDI Music: Linux and/or OS X?

For my birthday, my dad got me a USB MIDI keyboard, which is awesome — especially if I want to use it with GarageBand, because MIDI on the Mac is soooo easy. One thing, though, is that I’d actually rather use it with LMMS and MuSe on my Ubuntu installation, but that seems to be rather difficult. It actually works fine with LMMS, but alas, LMMS does not seem to support SoundFonts and neither can I make (and play) an entire drum kit at once. I have to record each different sound individually — i.e. I have to record the tracks separatly, which is a pain, in my opinion.

So, MuSe and MIDI… It may just be me, but it seems I’ve tried every possible combination of settings and soft-synths, but still no cigar. I know that the keyboard is recognized, because — as I said — I can use it with LMMS, but MuSe just seems to make using MIDI really, really complicated, which is too bad. If anyone knows of any up-to-date documentation on the subject, please let me know, because what I’ve been digging up on google is ancient.

Anyways, I hope I don’t get too carried away with MIDI and totally lose the ability to keep it simple — don’t hesitate to let me know, if that happens. For now you’ll have to settle with my old tracks, until I’ve figured out how to work MIDI on Linux — or at least until I figure out how to make GarageBand obey my every command (hehe, yeah right… Like Apple would let me do that.) Alternatively, if Ardour make that native OS X port available soon and it has (some) MIDI editing capabilities, I might actually use that, because it absolutely rocks my boat.

Finally, if you have any tips or tricks (anything!) regarding MIDI on either Linux or OS X, please comment away (or email me). It’ll be greatly appreciated!

Deteriocrat - The Video

Using the built-in iSight in my MacBook, some insomnia, one of Stffn’s socks (that he forgot last he visited), some spare time, a little patience and iMovie - I managed to make a video for Deteriocrat. It’s nothing big or fancy — in fact, it’s not even good, really… And here it is!

(Update (11:27): Now also on Google Videos, should you prefer that over YouTube.)

Guess who’s back

… at least until these hard drives crash and burn.

On top of that my ISP has decided that I should no longer keep the IP address that I’ve had for 3 years, so they changed it — no notice or anything. Unfortunately I didn’t notice until today because of lillesvin.net DNS trouble. So I’m still waiting for the change to be registered on the DNS servers.

So what else is new? I’m still living in the same crappy place (at least for some months yet) and I’m still studying linguistics, though I am doing my supplementary year on Cognitive Semiotics — so far it sucks and it’s really confusing. I might change my mind later on, but for now it sucks. Oh yeah, my laptop battery is dead and so is the cd-/dvd-rom drive — no warranty… But apart from that, all is great — believe it or not, everything is absolutely great! :)

On a completely unrelated note, I’ve put up a little Paypal donation thingy on my googlepages music site in case anyone should like my music so much that they’d actually want to pay for it. Don’t like it that much? Don’t donate! It’s that simple! (If you’re considering asking what your money will be spent on, then the answer will be: “drugs and hoes”.)
