So… We moved in and the server was moved to my dad’s house, where it turned out that TDC (my dad’s internet provider) had blocked port 25 — ie. no SMTP for me — and refused to open it again. After a couple of days, a solution was found, but I’m not sure how well it works, but I’ll just hang in here a while to get a better idea about it. The rest of the services should run as always, although those whose stuff I host, will probably want to change the IP address in the DNS records. (You can get the new one by doing ‘host lillesvin.net’.)
Apart from that, we’re starting to get settled in our new and absolutely awesome flat and now that we’ve got a 5 mbit/1 mbit connection, it’s all so much better. I’ll probably post some pictures later (of the flat, not the internet connection), when I can get hold of a camera. We ordered a D-Link access point yesterday, which will probably be delivered monday, so this summer I’ll be blogging from the roof terrace. Oh yeah…
Lillesvin has gone Pink for October! Why?
Enjoy!
The restoration is really going well now. It seems that the mail server is functioning, most web sites/services seems to be doing alright and finally, just this instant, I finished restoring the Subversion repositories and setting up ViewVC. It’s great to have the old bitchy server back - I just wish I could set it up on a better connection… On some better hardware… In a server park - or something… But this (256/256 kbps, 633 MHz Intel Celeron, 128 MB RAM, 20 GB + 30 GB hard drives, in my room/closet) will have to do for yet a while.
If you encounter something that isn’t working (but should be working), please let me know (comment here or mail me) so I can fix it. I’m sure there are still permission problems here and there, but it’s quite hard locating each and every one of them.
By the way, the server is now running Debian Etch and kernel 2.6, which is a nice upgrade from the old Debian unstable w/ kernel 2.4, from which I didn’t dare upgrade.
… at least until these hard drives crash and burn.
On top of that my ISP has decided that I should no longer keep the IP address that I’ve had for 3 years, so they changed it — no notice or anything. Unfortunately I didn’t notice until today because of lillesvin.net DNS trouble. So I’m still waiting for the change to be registered on the DNS servers.
So what else is new? I’m still living in the same crappy place (at least for some months yet) and I’m still studying linguistics, though I am doing my supplementary year on Cognitive Semiotics — so far it sucks and it’s really confusing. I might change my mind later on, but for now it sucks. Oh yeah, my laptop battery is dead and so is the cd-/dvd-rom drive — no warranty… But apart from that, all is great — believe it or not, everything is absolutely great! :)
On a completely unrelated note, I’ve put up a little Paypal donation thingy on my googlepages music site in case anyone should like my music so much that they’d actually want to pay for it. Don’t like it that much? Don’t donate! It’s that simple! (If you’re considering asking what your money will be spent on, then the answer will be: “drugs and hoes”.)
I bought a resonator guitar (aka. dobro) — a Johnson JR-410 — and a good mic, so prepare for a shitload of weird stuff coming up on akm.lillesvin.net.
On an entirely different note, this is my blog entry number 100! (OMG PONIES!!!!11oneoneeleven) Yay for me! Yay for Madsen! Yay for Lillesvin!
