USA to Invade the Netherlands Next?
I just read this “story” at Fox News… (It speaks for itself…)
Here is what I sent them.

Subject: Regarding: Does History Repeat Itself?
Date: Thu, 9 Dec 2004 19:07:02 +0100Hi there.
I just read Column One: Does History Repeat Itself
(http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,140612,00.html) and I must say that
I’m astounded by your obvious lack of journalistic integrity and basic
fact-checking.
At first I was shocked to see that you actually dared writing such a
thing on a world wide broadcasting networks website and I was planning
to write you an email with a whole lot of swearing and questioning of
your sexual preferences, but then I decided to just comment on it and
stay here and be happy I don’t live in the States. So I’ll just be
sitting here feeling sorry for you - while taking a great deal of
consolation in the fact that the media here in Europe isn’t as twisted
as it apparently is”over there”.I think you owe the entire population of the Netherlands a very, very
sincere apology for that article, which I now you won’t give even if
every single person in the Netherlands filed a lawsuit against you.
I mean, it’s bad enough that a lot of Americans already don’t know
what’s going on outside that (relatively) small bubble called “The
States” — and if this is how you present it to them, it’s no surprise
that most Americans remain ignorant for the rest of their lives. (Yes,
you Cal Thomas!)It doesn’t give the text very much credibility that there are no
references to any source what so ever… I mean, it appears to me that
Cal Thomas was in fact the one smoking dope while doing this, not the
Dutch.
And the fact that some of the so-called “facts” about Holland are
obviously false is simply embarrassing. (What other drugs than
marijuana/hash has been legalized in the Netherlands? — I don’t think
marijuana/hash qualifies as “most drugs”… Not even in the States.)
It’s obvious that Cal Thomas doesn’t know the first thing about the
Netherlands. What is the point of that “story” anyways? There’s no clear theme or
anything, just random rambling and trashing of the Netherlands.
I mean, if you just want to bash the Netherlands, why don’t you just
invade them next! They’ve got as many weapons of mass destruction as
Saddam did. (Exactly, that’s “none”!)Please keep your “journalism” off the web until you get some real
factual facts (that is, “facts” in the true meaning of the word).
Stop polluting the Web!Oh yeah, one more thing it’s “The Netherlands”, not “Holland”. Why do
you think their TLD is .nl?Madsen, Denmark/Europe

“Live free or don’t.”
I urge everyone to send an email to afterhours@foxnews.com and tell them what you think about that piece “journalism”.

I couldn’t agree more.
Never will I buy anything American again! They actually almost past a law allowing them to invade the Netherlands if an American soldier would ever have to appear in front of the International court of justice.
They lack so incredibly much relativisme, it’s scary for a religeous country where guns are allowed and the porn industry is a profital business, but read the bible out loud every sunday.

If I were to do so, I think I’d just refer to your mail, it clearly states all the problems with that article.
But I’m not sure that “Holland” is a wrong term.

The dutch people I know say that they prefer Netherlands, but that Holland is not incorrect. I think a journalist should always try to use such prefered terms as much as possible.
