Ubuntu Arrived
Yay, they’re here! Finally. I just booted the live-cd that comes with the distro and it looked so great. I’m really looking forward to trying it out, as I’m growing a bit tired of Debian, since it’s always sagging behind. Gnome 2.8 isn’t there yet, not even Firefox 1.0 (!) and it’s starting to annoy me. Hopefully Ubuntu will be more up to speed.
But of course, I’m not just installing Ubuntu on my old Debian partition, I’m planning on removing Windows instead, since I hardly ever use it for anything - only netbanking, which I almost never do anyway. Then I could be installing Ubuntu in a chroot’ed environment from my Debian. That would be a lot of fun imho.
I’ll let you know when it’s all gone wrong, all my partitions are erased and I’m soaking wet and crying in the gutter… Or something…

Is it on purpose that you put all those links on those words?
I’d imagine that I had put the links on ‘great, Debian, Gnome, Firefox, Ubuntu, Windows, Ubuntu and Debian’ instead..

as above

Yeah, pretty much on purpose… :-)
I just thought I’d try to make something extremely boring more interesting.

LOL!
I found the text somewhat interesting. But I got a bit disturbed by the links..
Finally some negative criticism on the Ubunutu project. Ahh, well. I don’t know the project, but many seem to send roses it’s way. Much alike with Gentoo in the early days /..\

Well, Ubuntu is nice! :-)
It’s not perfect and Firefox, for instance, is at version 0.9.3 and not 1.0.
However, they have really made a nice integrated desktop that just works!
Their universe repository has the most common applications ready for easy installation, which is a *really* nice thing.
I just hope they can keep up the steam…

Hehe, I can’t get it to boot. I installed it on my WinXP partition and now grub complains about “unknown partition type” and refuses to boot on the partition. :-(
