Making Progress

The restoration is really going well now. It seems that the mail server is functioning, most web sites/services seems to be doing alright and finally, just this instant, I finished restoring the Subversion repositories and setting up ViewVC. It’s great to have the old bitchy server back - I just wish I could set it up on a better connection… On some better hardware… In a server park - or something… But this (256/256 kbps, 633 MHz Intel Celeron, 128 MB RAM, 20 GB + 30 GB hard drives, in my room/closet) will have to do for yet a while.

If you encounter something that isn’t working (but should be working), please let me know (comment here or mail me) so I can fix it. I’m sure there are still permission problems here and there, but it’s quite hard locating each and every one of them.

By the way, the server is now running Debian Etch and kernel 2.6, which is a nice upgrade from the old Debian unstable w/ kernel 2.4, from which I didn’t dare upgrade.

Nice that you are back. Did you get a spare drive for mirror, just in case?

Well, I’ve got a 20 gb (system) and a 30 gb (web sites, mail, subversion) hard drive in the server now - I’m planning on using the system disk to store the last two backups of the other disk and then do some backing up on my external hard drive (160 gb).

I just have to script it and make cron do it.
