Re Gain/Output:
I'm actually not quite sure what the difference is, but I have a clue - and I'm not going to even try to explain it here. It's one of those thoughts that's not quite ready to be expressed in words yet.

Re Mic:
I don't think this mic will perform very well as handheld, since it's very sensitive to bumps and stuff. E.g. if I'm recording and accidently bump the guitar into the cable I'll get a loud pop (or whatever you want to call it) in the recording. I don't think condenser mics in general are very good as hand-helds.
I can try doing some tests though, but it'll have to wait a bit until I'm through with my exams.

Re other:
The Behringer UB-802 is really nice, a friend of mine has one and it seems great. I was actually considering buying it myself before I got the other pre-amp.

I've got a few questions about the mic and the pre.

the pre -
Whats the diffrence between useing the Gain and the Output knob?

the mic -
Would you mid to a few handheld tests? Both indoor tests, fx. just holding it, and walking, and standing/sitting talking to it. And outdorr tests (you got 6m caple, so you could go throgh the window?)? Please that is.
I just wunder how it, and condenser mic that price range in general, preforms as handheld mics. I've been looking at Opus 53 (condencer mic) [1] to go with a UB-802 mixer [2] which have a both mic pre and phantom power. But allso maybe to go with a transportable pre/power box for doing field recordings. The later is why i would like to hear outdoor recordings.

[2] http://www.aage.dk/default.asp?page=/Shoppingsystem/vare.asp?varenr=14489

PS. Anyone know of a cheap'ish mixer with optical/digital (s/p-dif) out? I guess that will have to be the job for the soundcard. Or a custum build mixer - yet another project for this summer.

Sorry, somehow I pasted the wrong link...
The right one is http://www.aage.dk/Shoppingsystem/vare.asp?varenr=27321 - and that's the set I bought.

Listen to Getaway (http://lillesvin.net/?101) and judge for yourself. :)

Which set?
That link looks a lot like the one Stfi posted ;-)

It doesn't sound like it would be the best microphone for voice, though.

Stfi is absolutely right, it's a GA Project FC-1. I bought it as part of a set (http://www.aage.dk/default.asp?page=/Shoppingsystem/vare.asp?varenr=30052), so it came with a stand, pre-amp and pop-filter. It's definitely not intended for hand held use - it's mainly a studio mic, but it might be used to rig up some acoustic instrument (e.g. my dobro) for concerts, but I think I'd prefer a more tough mic for that --- these condenser mics are pretty fragile.

I can definitely recommend it - especially with the Behringer tube pre-amp that came with the set. It gives it a great sound. Go to http://lillesvin.googlepages.com/andersk.madsen and download Getaway for a sample - everything's recorded with that mic.

That looks quite neat.

Maybe I should get Randi one of those for her birthday :-)

It's for use with a stand or something, right? I mean, it's not intended for handheld use, is it?

Congrats on the 100th.

I've only reached 27, but I'm gaining speed. And to my defense, I never reposted anything older than one year back (circa).

As for the mic, I'd like to know which one too. And I have no idea what that guitar sounds like.. The picture reminds me of both "the duel" and Crossroads.. for some reason..
